Yes We Care 2008
Yes We Care is an initiative of the BrizNet group of churches with the purpose of demonstrating the love of Jesus Christ in a practical way to the people of Brisbane
To facilitate this, Brisbane's Biggest Neighbourhood Blitz is held annually in May or June. It is a day when the church (one church, many locations) in the Greater Brisbane region, in cooperation with the Brisbane City Council and other authorities, put organised teams into homes of needy people.
Tasks include:
- cleaning of rooms
- window cleaning
- rubbish removal (the Brisbane City Council supply us with vouchers for the tip)
- lawn mowing and wipper snippering
- gardening
- repairing fences etc
- many practical tasks that the person may not be able to do themselves.
Although the thrust of the day is to help people practically, some people are grateful to enjoy someone to talk to—a listening ear is important!
Yes We Care Strategy
BrizNet recongises the importance of the local church and the Yes We Care strategy is founded very much on mobilising the local church. Any church in the Greater Brisbane Region can participate in ‘Brisbane’s Biggest Neighbourhood Blitz’ and together we can impact the region in one day with acts of service and compassion.
The first Yes We Care, Brisbane's Biggest Neighbourhood Blitz was held in 2006 when we had 600 volunteers go into 300 homes. In 2007 we had around 1000 volunteers go into more than 600 homes. Like the previous year’s campaigns, we again have the full support of the Lord Mayor Campbell Newman and the Brisbane City Council.
